eBay can’t win Poles

Poles prefer to shop the Polish way, recent search statistics show.

Since entering the Polish market in 2005, eBay has failed to win the Polish public over from its Polish rival – Allegro www.allegro.pl.

During the first half of this year, the number of registered accounts in Allegro increased by 35% (to 6.5 million) and the turnaround increased by 50%. In comparison, eBay gained a mere 700,000 accounts – a disappointing result for the world famous brand.

Having accepted the defeat, eBay has changed its tactics and has now launched a buyout of shares of QXL Ricardo, a company that owns Allegro and others. London financial analysts predict a quick takeover of Allegro.
