Safer Internet Day approaches

Safer Internet day is February 12th. Few people know the internet better than Greig Holbrook.

Greig is founder of OBAN Multilingual, a company which studies the internet habits of people worldwide. And with two young girls of his own, he understands the perils of internet safety.

Learning how to be aware of what your children are searching, he says, is the key. Different search terms can result in certain sites parents may not want their children to see.

“Educating parents about these different search terms might help parents to enforce their own search filters at home,” says Greig.

For example, typing seemingly harmless words like “images”, “water sports” or “contacts” into a search engine can turn up x-rated sites.
