Spanish characters come to the Internet

The “.es” domain name authority has begun to admit Spanish/Castilian characters, such as “ñ”, “Ç”, and “ü”, as well as the accent ( ´ ).

According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, characters used in Spanish/Castilian, Catalan and Basque/Euskera and Galician alphabets will now be included in “.es” domain names. This measure has been taken by the government to promote technology and telecommunications in Spanish society.

The Public Business Organization said that the characters likely to be added to “.es” include:

“á”, “à”, “é”, “è”, “í”, “ì”, “ó”, “ò”, “ú”, “ù”, “ü”, “ñ”, “Ç”.
