Yahoo recently picked up a 35% stake in Tyroo, a New Delhi-based company. This move signals that Yahoo is serious about taking Google’s AdSense head-on.
Tyroo is primarily focused on Indian website publishers. According to its website, its aim is to simplify pay-per-click advertising on the Internet.
There are thousands of bloggers and site owners in India, and this move could provide them with an alternative route to AdSense. Yahoo may leverage its existing sales and marketing resources to bring more publishers and advertisers into the Tyroo program. Microsoft has also been making acquisitions in the online ad space.
