Expedia recently investigated online holiday booking behaviour amongst Swedes and reported some interesting behavioural trends in when, how and what people look for when they book a holiday.
The online travel company reported that the Internet-savvy Swede knows how to get the best deals when booking holidays online. One in ten people seize the opportunity to upgrade their holiday when booking package holidays online. More people also tend to book package holidays, which tend to be the cheaper option in the long run.
Most of the holiday bookings appear to take place on a Monday. People are back behind their desks at work after the weekend, and imagine themselves in more exciting and wonderful places. A fair amount of bookings also take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, whilst a decreasing trend in bookings can be seen towards the end of the week, with hardly any bookings at all on Saturdays.
Expedia further discovered that most bookings take place in the evening, particularly, a peak in bookings was found at 21:00.
A steadily increasing preference for high standard accommodation was also reported, with half of those Swedes surveyed opting for 4 or 5 start hotels.
