Online retail in China expected to hit $360 billion by 2015

At the beginning of this year, we were mentioning that 2012 is the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese Zodiac and its set to be a very successful year for international e-commerce. Now a couple of months later, a report from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) announced that China’s Internet commerce market is expected to triple its value over the next three years reaching $360 billion.

San Francisco-based blogging and sharing platform Posterous announced yesterday on its blog that has been acquired by Twitter adding that Twitter is interested mostly in the people, not the product. Posterous engineers, product managers will join the Twitter team and the Posterous space will remain up and running “without disruption” and  users given ample notice if any changes are made to the service. Baidu Removes British Universities from its Index Following Bing Deal.

If you're up to date on SEO news, it's of little doubt you've heard Baidu and Bing's deal to serve Microsoft's indexed results on the leading Chinese search engine. English search terms entered in to Baidu were set to return the top 3 results from Bing's index and competitively position them against entries from Baidu's regional index. Since Baidu boasts a 70-80% dominance of the search market in China it's easy to understand Microsoft's methodology of increasing its foothold in the market. And sure enough this announced functionality has been slowly integrated into Baidu's SERPs since the announcement. You can read more about the deal that took place in July here.

Baidu Launches Online Shopping Mall

Chinese search engine Baidu has launched an online shopping mall in China.Rakuten, the Japanese e-commerce giant, teamed up with Baidu to develop Lekutian (meaning ‘Happy Cool Day’), which will compete with the established Alibaba Group – the biggest online retail network in China, currently holding a 75% market share (Analysys International).
