EUROPE VISITORS KEY FOR EAST MIDLANDS

MARKETING to attract European visitors to its region is a key task identified by East Midlands Tourism.

Traffic to the German and French versions of the tourism authority’s website was up more than 90% in April, and to the Dutch and Spanish portals by nearly 30%. Now EMT is seeking to use its newly internationalised websites in conjunction with other marketing initiatives to increase the number of overnight staying visitors in the region.

Its future marketing plan will focus on German, Dutch and French tourists. According to the ETM website, currently only 7% of income from tourism in the region comes from inbound visitor spend.

    Outsourcing Multilingual SEO

    The principle of multilingual

Imagine an airline that flies exclusively between England and the US. Sure, it gets lots of business from English and American tourists, but this airline is clearly missing out on big travel markets around the world. The airline could see massive gains by expanding its destination list by even a few countries.

The same principle lies behind websites. English-only websites will attract English traffic. Yet 70 percent of the online community does not speak English.

Multilingual SEO allows companies to reach markets to which they would otherwise be invisible. (more…)

    Seller’s Workshop: Multilingual SEO

Many eBay listings appear in search engines – Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Live all work on the same principle. Optimise your listings, for multiple languages, and you can achieve better sales. Greig Holbrook, a director of Oban Multilingual, explains:

The vast majority of digital marketers in the UK are very familiar with both search engine optimisation (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM). The growth in popularity of SEO/SEM has been quite staggering.

However the really big changes in SEO in 2007-2008 have been in the growth in internet usage and search behaviour which is happening within multilingual environments worldwide. (more…)

    How to implement multilingual SEO
By Greig Holbrook, owner of OBAN Multilingual

    What is Multilingual SEO?

Imagine having a website that attains page one rankings on search engines in China, Japan, and Lebanon. When the users visit the website, they can read content in their own language, complete with their own sayings and colloquialisms.

The page they see has also been customised for their cultural preferences and habits. This is possible with multilingual SEO. (more…)
